AN ARMENIAN ARCHITECT - Lot 108
AN ARMENIAN ARCHITECT Enhanced engraving, plate 88 from "Recueil de cent estampes représentant les diverses nations du Levant, tirées d'après nature en 1707 et 1708 par les ordres de M. de Ferriol, ambassadeur du Roy à la Porte" drawn by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour and engraved by J. de Franssières. Bowl dimensions: 36 x 25 cm. Sheet size: 45 x 30 cm. A small tear in the left margin. The author also explains this plate: "Most of the Architects and Carpenters of Constantinople are Armenians. They have an instrument that serves as a hammer on one side and an axe on the other; and by joining the saw to it, they don't need any other instrument to make a house."
