Paul-Aram BAZIRGUIAN (1887-1972) Book by M. L. Coupé, Opuscules d'Homère, 1ère partie, Paris (Honnert), 1796. Presenting an armorial bookplate of Paul-Aram Bazirguian, bearing the motto Mihi dedit Armenia patrem matremque Gallia. Dubium Montanus lucemque Socrates, i.e. "Armenia gave me a father, France a mother, Montaigne doubt and Socrates light". The coat of arms represents Armenia with the Ararat France with the rooster, doubt with the balance and light with the star. Bookplate dimensions: 6.5 x 4.3 cm per bowl, 10 x 6 cm for the leaf. Paul-Aram's father, General Minister Charles Bazirguian, was an advisor to King Mozaffer-ed-Din Shah at the Persian Ministry of Telegraphs from 1862 to 1907. His mother was French. Cultured, patriotic, Croix de guerre 1914-18, royalist, member of the Société des amis de Montaigne, he owned a substantial library, the works of which were embellished with this handsome bookplate.
