Cultures of Mexico - CHINESCO Seated female figure Ceramic with polychrome decoration and glazed surface Height: 44 cm Nayarit culture, Chinesco style, ca. 100 B.C.-250 A.D. Mexico. Broken and glued, some restorations, otherwise well preserved. Provenance : Galerie de Sfinx, Amsterdam Private collection, Geneva (acquired from Galerie de Sfinx in 1981, with invoice in archives) Private collection, Vaduz (acquired in 2006) Female figure seated with legs spread and extended. The stylized arms are separated from the body and join the hands resting above the hips. Facial paintings and earrings adorn the face. The hair is marked by shallow grooves. Thermoluminescence test of 07/26/2024 by the Re.S.Artes laboratory (Bordeaux) indicates a dating between 95 BC and 220 AD. As this lot is a temporary import (from outside the EU), import VAT of 5.5% must be added to the hammer price before it is released for consumption in France.
