ARDENNES. Principality of CHÂTEAU-REGNAULT. Henriette Cather - Lot 16
ARDENNES. Principality of CHÂTEAU-REGNAULT. Henriette Catherine de JOYEUSE, wife of CHARLES DE LORRAINE, Duc de GUISE (1571-1640). Letter signed by Dame "JOYEUSE DE LORRAINE ET GUISE" written in Paris on July 8, 1620, addressed to Monsieur de SAINT LAURENT, Commandant for my service at CHATEAU-REGNAULT (À Bogny-sur-Meuse, Ardennes): "Monsieur de Saint Laurent, seeing what seems to give me occasion to believe that trouble may come to this Kingdom, by the great preparations for war being made to prevent the designs and undertakings of those who might oppose the will and service of the Roy (Louis XIII). I have deemed it appropriate to write to you and order that if you have hitherto taken particular care of my Sovereign Lands, especially the conservation of the Places of CHÂTEAU-REGNAULT, LINCHAMPS (Château de Linchamps, Ardennes) and others, continue to take good care of them and to warn your subjects to do the same, not allowing anyone to enter who might undertake to keep them in the rest and tranquility I have commanded. You will also make this known to your brother who commands my service. Of what assuring me, I pray of Creator, Monsieur de Saint Laurent, that he keep you in his custody."
