PUY-DE-DÔME. Pierre-Victor MALOUET (Riom 1740-1814) intendant of the Navy, deputy of the Tiers-État of the RIOM seneschauzee to the Estates General, royalist publicist. 2 Letters: Letter A.S., Paris June 16 (c. 1789), [to Mme NECKER]; 2 1/2 pages in-4. He thanks her for her observations on the subject of the Sisters of Charity and sends the text to Marshal de Castries: "Your opinion, Madame, is a judgment on which both vanity and virtue would like to rely, but I am not blinded. The goodness and the elevation of your soul spread over all that approaches you". He reiterates his devotion to him and Monsieur Necker, even in exile, and would "always consider it a favor to be allowed into your retreat"... (In 1789, with Necker's support, he is elected Deputy to the Estates-General) + Letter A.S., Toulon October 27 (between 1781 and 1789), to a duke; 4 pages in-4. On the subject of upcoming appointments to the navy; he proposes "preferably for this promotion, commissaires aux classes who have been raised in the arsenal and who know the inland service of the ports". He gives the names, qualifications and references of the men suitable for this choice.
