It is my nephew Francisque GARAT who will deliver this letter to you. Please accept the 1,000 francs he brings you, and write to your Maison de Neufchâtel to deliver the same sum to me when I come to collect it. You will also oblige me by sending me, poste restante to Neufchâtel, a letter of credit of twelve hundred francs for some House in either Berne or one of the main towns in Western Switzerland. It's very likely that I won't use it, but I may need it. Adieu, be well..."
