Odilon BARROT, Député de l'EURE, Président du Conseil in 184 - Lot 485
Odilon BARROT, Député de l'EURE, Président du Conseil in 1848/1849 (Villefort/ Lozère 1791 - Bougival (78) 1873). Draft autograph letter signed and 1 Lithograph: Draft of his letter of resignation as Prefect of the Seine, which he will address to King LOUIS-PHILIPPE 1er, made in Paris on December 28, 1830. 1p in-folio. Barrot reminds the King that it was only out of devotion that he had accepted this position, and that he had been led to hope "that (his) mission would not last longer than the necessity which motivated it". He adds: "I believe the time has come for me to return to my usual work. Your Majesty's Government has demonstrated its strength, and no longer needs a politician at City Hall; a good administrator will suffice...." (Appointed Prefect on August 30, 1830, Barrot had also been elected Deputy for EURE. The King refused to accept his resignation, but Barrot eventually stepped down in October. He became the leader of the left-wing constitutional monarchists). + Lithograph (40 x 29) by Bornemann, after a Photo by Adam Salomon. Impr. Lemercier et Cie Paris, 1869.
