Pendant depicting a standing figure.
Light green jadeite flecked with black.
Height: 7.1 cm
Between the end of the Olmec culture and the beginning of the Maya culture, ca. 400-100 BC. J.C.
Guatemala.
A rare pendant depicting a dwarf in an astonishing pose. The hands are in a pincer position, forming a circle. The feet are turned outwards. The legs are very bent, forming a circular opening. The head, tucked into the shoulders, is large. It appears to be topped by a cap with two protuberances. The almond-shaped eyes are slightly deep-set. The mouth is small and pouty. Underneath, a pronounced round chin. A tapered hole at shoulder height is used to hang the pendant.
