Standing anthropomorphic figure. Beige stone with reddish-brown veins. Height: 21.9 cm Chontal culture, ca. 300-100 B.C. J.C. Mexico, Guerrero state. Statuette representing a standing anthropomorphic figure with legs well separated from each other. The arms are detached from the trunk. The opening made by the drills is still visible. The head is projected backwards, rectangular in shape, with a prominent nose and pierced nostrils. On the sides, the ears are present and the lobes are pierced. Sculptures from the Guerrero region have always fascinated mankind, starting with the cultures that followed them. Indeed, the inhabitants of the City of Teotihuacan and the Aztecs went straight to the statuettes, perhaps seeing in them the presence of an ancestor or the divine. Today, surrealist artists such as André Breton have seen in their aesthetic purity a kind of Koiné between peoples: whether it's the Cycladic figures or the Moaïs of Easter Island.
