Vase with stirrup handle representing the god Aï Apaec. Polychrome ceramic (cream-white, red and black) Height: 25 cm Length: 17 cm Mochica culture, ca. 100-700 A.D. Peru. He wears a headdress from which four felines descend in a cross around the edges. The god can be recognized by his wide-open mouth with visible fangs and wide-open eyes. His cheeks feature a wave motif. The god AÏ Apaec was the main deity of the Mochicas. He was as feared as he was venerated: a creator god who demanded human sacrifice.
