Auguste LE BRETON(1913-1999, prolific author of detective no - Lot 524
Auguste LE BRETON(1913-1999, prolific author of detective novels, to whom we owe the word "rififi" - many of his novels have been adapted for the cinema) / Autograph manuscript (handwritten) on 4 in-4 sheets, totaling 5 pages of writing and several sketches: Exceptional working notes for the preparation of a film about the "safe robbery", a mythical and coveted theme in the world of burglars, and therefore particularly exploited and treated in "thrillers" - The notes are accompanied by technical sketches, showing Le Breton's meticulous preparation, precision and, above all, his desire for credibility - On the first sheet, Le Breton explains the "bridge work", sketching the safe: drilling a hole in the center and tapping - He specifies: "On the second sheet, he concludes: "Coffre-fort (chalumeau périmé), although excellent and effective, the bridge work cannot be used in our film: the viewer won't give it the credibility we want - he'll be amazed that an armored safe door can be opened so easily; moreover, the work will be too fast, and we'll be unable to place our suspense - apart from drilling the hole and tapping, the trick isn't spectacular - on the contrary, the work done with the HUNGER PIN offers everything we want, but the work is longer and more frightening:1st phase: unseal the chest from the wall and slowly, very slowly, lay it forward on blankets and carpets, to get at the most vulnerable part of the chest, i.e. the wall adhering to the wall on the underside. We'll work on the back wall - Drill several holes - Hand saw blade - Spare blades - We break every other one as we go -And cut the chest as with a can opener and Le Breton gives technical explanatory sketches on the other two sheets - [Provenance: March 2015 Auguste Le Breton sale at Drouot at Gros et Delettrez "Du Rififi à Drouot"]
