Baron de LANDEMONT. Duc de BOURBON-CONDÉ. Countess Henri DE - Lot 498
Baron de LANDEMONT. Duc de BOURBON-CONDÉ. Countess Henri DE LANNOY. 1819 - Autograph letter signed by Louis François Jean PANTIN DE LANDEMONT, Baron de LANDEMONT, Colonel de Cavalerie, to Mr de Glatigny, chargé d'affaires du Duc de BOURBON-CONDÉ, complaining of the Bourbons' ingratitude. February 17, 1819. Apostille of reply signed Louis Henri Joseph de BOURBON-CONDÉ (1756 - 1830) with his initials "Accordé cent francs, L H J B". Received the hundred francs, signed "Comtesse Henri de LANNOY", in margin. 1 page large in-8°: "I had reason to hope for a different treatment from the Prince's kindnesses than the one I am experiencing, and which was surely only contrary to me because your report was not in my favor. Especially unaware of all I have done for the name of the Bourbons, and principally for the unfortunate Duc D'ENGHIEN, for whom I was locked up for 8 months in the Temple, and for whom I had spent so much money to find supporters to free him from where he was. I believed that my name, my services, my captivity should give me a degree of elevation above the importunities that tormented him and you too. It is not surprising, Monsieur, that you put little warmth into pleading my cause; as for me, I have always put a lot of warmth into supporting that of the Bourbons; and particularly in the 100 days when I spent more than 80,000 Francs to support royalist soldiers, who like me are paid with ingratitude. This, Monsieur, is all I can tell you."
