Cultures of Mexico - COLIMA - Lot 4
Cultures of Mexico - COLIMA Stylized representation of a seated shaman. Red slip terracotta with white highlights. Height : 29 cm Width: 23.5 cm Thickness: 21.3 cm Colima culture, ca. 200 BC A.D. 500. Mexico. Very good condition. No visible breaks. Root traces. Provenance : Private collection, Geneva (acquired late 70s-early 80s) Private collection, Vaduz (acquired 2006) Seated shaman in a stylized representation. The arms are tubular. The left hand is resting on the left knee. Legs are extended. The right arm is raised, fist clenched or holding an object. The head shows a cranial deformity. He wears a headdress adorned with a shamanic horn. His chest is decorated with linear and geometric motifs carved into the terracotta. It is likely that this is the representation on the ceramic of a shamanic protective garment. This lot is a temporary import (from a non-EU country), and import VAT of 5.5% will be added to the hammer price for sale in France.
