Cultures of Mexico - TOTONAQUE Face of a priest wearing a wide-brimmed headdress decorated with a coyote jaw. The mouth bears traces of bitumen. Beige terracotta and bitumen. Height: 14 cm Width: 13.3 cm Thickness: 10 cm Totonaque culture, ca. 450-750 A.D. State of Veracruz, Mexico. Missing and broken, otherwise well preserved. Provenance : Private collection, Geneva (acquired late 70s-early 80s) Private collection, Vaduz (acquired 2006) Very interesting depiction of a priest with a richly decorated headdress and bitumen-covered mouth. This lot is a temporary import (from a non-EU country), and import VAT of 5.5% must be added to the hammer price for sale in France.
