FRANCE (Anatole): L'Affaire Crainquebille. 62 compositions by Steinlen, engraved by Deloche, E. and F. Florian, les deux Froment, Gusman, Mathieu and Perrichon, Paris, Édouard Pelletan, Éditeur, 1901. In-4 half vellum with corners, gilt head, untrimmed (Gauché) A few rare and very light brown spots. First edition of the text illustrated with 63 compositions, also original, by Steinlen (6 hors-texte and 57 headpieces, vignettes and lamp-ends), engraved by Deloche and printed in black by Ernest and Frédéric Florian, Emile and Eugène Fromet, Pierre Gusmann, M. Mathieu and M. L. Perrichon. Limited edition of 400 copies. This is one of the trial copies, from the very first edition, reprinted in in-4 format on old Japon, unjustified. A few duplicate pages are bound in at the end, one of which bears a long autograph note in pencil signed by Pelletan. A fine copy.
