GARD. DE VALFONS family, Marquis de LA CALMETTE. 3 letters: Letter of friendship signed BAGNON written from ALAIS (Alès, Gard) on July 19, 1775, addressed to the Marquis de VALFONS Lieutenant-Colonel at the Régiment Provincial d'Alby, in Nîmes (Gard): "l'affaire de Dupra n'est pas terminée. Our gentlemen at the town hall are too busy casting the bells, the steeple, etc. They have promised me that they will do the same. They have promised me that they will deal with Dupra next. The result will be that we'll keep a few prohibited books, and sell him the others. At least, that's what they promised me. I'm glad you're happy with your new colonel. He will never have anything better to do than to take the advice of an excellent head like yours..." 2 pages in-8° + News addressed on July 27, 1777 to Mr de Président de LA CALMETTE in Nîmes (Gard). Wax seal with arms at opening: "I received your letter, in my campaign, my dear friend, ... the retirement of the Minister of Finance, voluntary on his part, has done him much honor and has not caused him to lose any of his consideration... the passage of Monsieur has brought us festivities; and you have been within reach of judging a Prince who unites all hearts here... the renewal of your Terrier causes you disputes, I pity you... All eyes here are open to America which interests all powers. This campaign is the focus of our attention. My other half and my daughter-in-law are very touched by your memory of them, and the latter intends to give me a son next August, which will take me back to Paris in the next few days of the month...". 2 pages large in-8° + Letter signed "le Marquis de CALMETTE", from Nîmes (Gard) December 27, 1782. to his sister VALFONS Vicomtesse de DE SEBOURG, at her Hôtel in Paris.
