METZ (MOSELLE) May 17, 1790. Autograph letter signed PIERON - Lot 224
METZ (MOSELLE) May 17, 1790. Autograph letter signed PIERON Prieur de ST CLÉMENT, following the abolition of the regular Clergy. - "Monsieur, ... The National Assembly, which has taken away our property, has at the same time deprived us of the consideration which is necessary for teachers to successfully educate youth. Our teachers and prefects are totally disgusted. The young people are becoming more and more difficult every day..." then he talks about his boarder "...he has learned to calculate lightly, to speak correctly, to write clearly, to dance gracefully.... I hope you will find him changed for the better... I'm sorry I can't keep him any longer; I tried to persuade our religious to continue teaching until we were forced to leave him; but my efforts were useless...". - 2pp gd in-8°.
