I cannot express to you how much I was affected by the fire in the village of PONT, I am sending 25 Louis to the municipality to distribute for the losses suffered by the inhabitants. I would have liked to do more for them, but my fortune does not allow it. I will do my utmost to help them obtain government assistance... The town of AVESNES is absolutely exonerated in the eyes of the Minister of War, and the arrival of the CHARTRES Regiment is proof of this. Rest assured, I'm on the lookout for anything that might be useful to our town. The Comte de LA TOUR, Colonel of the Régiment Royal Liégeois, did me the honor of telling me that the town of Avesnes owed him the sum of 400 and some pounds for his lodging, and that he intended to claim it back. There's no news yet, and the situation is extremely calm. The General Federation of all the National Guards of the kingdom will take place in Paris on July 14 (1790)..."- (small tear not missing.)
