EMIGRATION OF THE NOBILITY. LOUIS XVIII in Exile. 3 Letters addressed to the Marquis de FLOIRAC in HAMBOURG DUSSELDORF (Germany): 1) HAMM February 10, 1794. Letter A.S. le Comte François d'ESCARS: "Je vous remercie des renseignements ... sur M. BAUDUS. This has enabled me to make him known to Mgr le Comte d'ARTOIS (Louis XVIII), who has asked me to authorize him to continue writing the article on France, in the Gazette de LEYDE. I had written to him to this effect. I also told him that I had not let Monseigneur ignore the good works he was doing, and that this prince had asked me to express his appreciation...". - 1 page in-8° - Coat of arms stamp on opening + 2) HAMM July 24, 1794. Letter signed L'Évêque d'ARRAS (Louis François Marc Hillaire de CONZIÉ 1736-1795) one of the most violent opponents of the Revolution, who refused to sit in the Estates General, accompanied the Comte d'ARTOIS abroad - 2 pages in-8°: "Monseigneur Comte d'ARTOIS (Louis XVIII) vient de lire Monsieur le Marquis la Lettre.... and has immediately ordered the Dispatch of the certificate... you will receive it by the Courier which will leave Hamm next Tuesday. H.R.H. has also ordered that the high esteem she has for you and your brothers be clearly expressed. You will no doubt bring with you a Certificate from Mr. Maréchal de BROGLIE, who is responsible for certifying your military services. I am authorized to inform you that your brother is one of the officers recommended by Monsieur Régent for employment in one of the seven new French Corps raised and paid for by the King of England, and that Monseigneur Comte d'ARTOIS has appointed him to the Corps commanded by M. le Comte d'HERVILLY... You will submit a statement of the services of M. le Chevalier de FLOIRAC,... and that M. le Comte d'HERVILLY receives it before the presentation he will have to make to His Britannic Majesty, of all the Officers of his Corps...". + 3) BLANKENBURG January 26, 1797. Letter signed "Le Comte d'AVARAY (Antoine Louis François DE BÉSIADE, Duc d'AVARAY (1759 - 1811) One of Louis XVIII's most devoted Servants, to whom he served as Agent during the Emigration. The prince granted him the right to include the French coat of arms in his coat of arms. (Coat of arms stamp at opening). 2 pages in-8°: "Vous m'avez appris une nouvelle qui a vivement intéressé le Roi, en me mandant que Monsieur votre Frère est en sureté. S.M., who rightly regards him as one of his best servants, and a model for all French knights, was too affected by the dangers he ran for so long, not to feel the keenest satisfaction in learning that he has finally escaped them... Rest assured that the secret will be kept..."
