Comte de LACÉPÈDE (Bernard Germain Étienne de la Ville) Musi - Lot 354
Comte de LACÉPÈDE (Bernard Germain Étienne de la Ville) Musician, Naturalist, Member of Parliament, Senator, Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor, Peer of France (Agen/Lot-et-Garonne 1756 - 1825). 2 autograph letters signed in 1801 and 1817: Lettre A.S. du 3 Germinal An 9 (24 mars 1801) au Citoyen BONNET Administrateur du Théâtre des Arts à Paris. 1p in-4°: "Citoyen. I have just learned that Citizen FERAY, artist at the Théâtre des Arts you administer, has just been reformed. You are too just and too humane, Citoyen, not to revoke this resolution. You know all that Citizen FERAY deserves for his talents, his accuracy, his long service, the very rare nature of his voice and his knowledge of music and composition, which make him so useful in difficult choral pieces, where the precision of his execution leads to that of many of those who sing with him: So much for justice. Here's to humanity. Citizen FERAY, by losing a position on which he had so much right to rely, will find himself destitute; he is the father of a family; he will die of grief...". + A.S. letter dated March 8, 1817, to M. Annibal De MARROT in Les Guilleberts (Charente). 1p in-4°: "The sentiments you kindly bestow upon me touch me as much as they honor me. Mr your father and mine were linked by a friendship you were kind enough to have for me, from your earliest youth. This attachment is too old and precious to me, for you not to keep it for me...".
