MAINE-ET-LOIRE. WALSH de SERRANT family. Autograph letter signed by Antoine WALSH DE SERRANT, 1 page small in-4, Paris, March 30, 1807, Followed by an autograph subscription signed by Louise Comtesse de WALSH DE SERRANT: Both recommend to an Ambassador, the canon M. Le Noir (former Grand Vicar of Angers), and M. de Preaux("young man of 22, very rich owner and from one of the best families of my department") who are traveling together. The Comtesse specifies that she has asked M. Le Noir to send her some merinos (sheep from Spain), "you would be very kind to facilitate the means. I have made a large establishment in my lands", and she would be very happy to acquire some of the finest breed. Louise de RIGAUD DE VAUDREUIL,Countess WALSH de SERRANT[1770-1831]. Her great-grandfather Philippe de Rigaud was Governor of New France (Canada) in 1703. Her father was Governor of Saint Domingue. Exiled during the Revolution to London, she married Antoine WALSH DE SERRANT [1744-1817], Lieutenant-General of the King's Armies. In 1804, she was appointedDame du Palais to Empress Joséphine. Appreciated by Emperor Napoleon, she became a reader. In August 1808, Napoleon honored Louise with a visit to the Château de SERRANT (Maine-et-Loire).
