THE GREAT ARMY of NAPOLEON I. "VIIIth Bulletin of the Army o - Lot 389
THE GREAT ARMY of NAPOLEON I. "VIIIth Bulletin of the Army of Germany." Vienna (Austria), May 16, 1809. Published by Jean DEBRY Préfet du DOUBS. Printed in Besançon by Jacques-François Couché (52 x 43 cm) Condition A-: "After our Victories, it was said that the French Army was innumerable, that it had never been composed of more hardened and braver men, that the devotion of the soldiers to NAPOLÉON tripled or quadrupled their means, that the cavalry was superb, that the artillery, better harnessed than that of any other nation, marched with the rapidity of lightning... Yesterday the Emperor reviewed General NANSOUTI's division of large cavalry. He praised the performance of this fine division, which, after such an active campaign, presented 5,000 horses in battle... In Vienna, we found 500 cannons, many mountings, many rifles, powder and ammunition, and a large quantity of cast iron cannonballs... The mass of banknotes in circulation exceeds 1,500 million. The Court of Vienna has taken away the plates of this kind of assignats, mortgaged in large part on the mines of the monarchy...". Order "The Landwehre militia is disbanded...". NAPOLÉON 1er and Alexandre BERTHIER, Prince de Neufchâtel.
