Jacques-Félix HAMELIN, Baron, Amiral (Honfleur/ Calvados 1768 - 1839) - 6 autograph letters signed "Baron HAMELIN Major Général de la Marine, à Toulon (Var), addressed to Mr Antoine-Laurent de JUSSIEU (1748- 1836) Professor of Botany at the Jardin du Roi in Paris from March 29, 1817 to December 28, 1819, and one to Mr ROBERT, in 1823, who talks about Botany and planting in his neglected garden: "... I beg you to allow me to follow your herborizations in the countryside this summer. I shall probably be the oldest of your students...". He collects seeds: "I'm busy making the herbarium of France, I roam the countryside and find beautiful plants that the climate of Paris does not allow your lucky pupils to collect in your herborizations. A Navy doctor teaches botany here twice a week..." "It's the grasses that give me the most trouble, for lack of a suitable herbarium to clear up my doubts, when one of them gives rise to them..."
