François d'ORLÉANS, Prince de Joinville, 3rd Son of Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orléans, King of the French (Neuilly-sur-Seine/ Hauts-de-Seine 1818 - Paris 1800) Vice-Admiral in 1845, Deputy for Haute-Marne. He took part in the transfer of the remains of Napoleon 1st in 1840 - Autograph letter signed François d'ORLÉANS, to Jean TUPINIER Minister of the Navy. Tuileries April 10, 1839. 2 pages in-4°: "I have just learned from the newspapers that explanations would be sent to you on Monday concerning the kidnapping of the pilot of the English liner the Express, and as it is possible that you will be called upon to give an account of the way in which the events occurred on the spot, I am sending you an exact account of the event as it happened before my eyes... I also have the honor of sending you a copy of a protest which was sent to me and which corroborates the facts I am advancing...".
