Charles-Pierre PAJOL, Sculptor, son of General PAJOL. Author - Lot 535
Charles-Pierre PAJOL, Sculptor, son of General PAJOL. Author of the statue erected to his father for the city of BESANÇON and the equestrian statue of NAPOLÉON 1er on the MONTEREAU bridge. (1812-1891) - Letter A.S. Versailles Oct. 31, 1860 - to M. de FORGES: "... my statue left the workshop on the 13th, on its way to the foundry. It was pulled by six large, heavy horses. This new image of the Commander on horseback crossed the fairground... the population and garrison were already able to witness this triumphant march through our avenues... but what difficulties and fears... In memory of his great power, my equestrian statue was accompanied by a carriage... carrying my two Bas-reliefs and the colossal bust of General de MONTHION destined for a monument to him in his native town: Saint-Denis de l'Ile BOURBON...". 4 pages in-8°
