Dimensions: 65 x 50 cm Pierre Ambrogiani: (1907-1985) was a french self-taught man painter, engraver, and sculptor. Pierre Ambrogiani was born to a modest family, which settled in the popular area of Marseille. Pierre Ambrogiani was a friend of Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono. His workshop was located cours d'Estienne d'Orves, close to the Vieux Port (Old harbour). He wandered around in the countryside with his car, painting after nature. In 1943, he moved to a workshop on the quai Rive Neuve in Marseille. Renowned for his bright colours, he was painting "midi" landscapes (southern landscapes), still lifes and fishes. He was also engraving numerous plates to illustrate books. In 1962, he decorated the church of l'Immaculée Conception in Marseille with frescoes and stain-glass windows. His works are in public collections, such as Musée des beaux-arts et d'archéologie de Châlons-en-Champagne, or Musée des beaux-arts de Marseille, or Musée d?Art & d?Histoire de Meudon.
