SAINTE-FACE / Consecrated replica of the Holy Face on cloth, - Lot 125
SAINTE-FACE / Consecrated replica of the Holy Face on cloth, 1886 (23 x 29.5 cm, traces of folding due to old framing): In 1876, upon his death, the Bishop of Tours transformed the house of the Venerable Léon Papin Dupont, Apostle of the Holy Face, into the Oratory of the Holy Face. Pope Leo XIII approved this devotion and established a similar oratory in Rome in St. Peter's Basilica in 1885. To celebrate this foundation, these fabric replicas were made, bearing the seals of the Tours Oratory and the Rome Oratory.
