BALLON. 1870. TELEGRAPHIC DEPRECHE N°83 - Circular of TOURS, received at DUNKERQUE (59) on Dec. 2, 1870. "The delegation of the Government received today, Thursday, December 1, the news of a VICTORY won under the walls of PARIS during the days of November 28, 29 and 30. This news had been brought to Tours by the BALLON the "JULES FAVRE" which went down near Belle-Isle-en-Mer. At four o'clock, M. GAMBETTA, member of the Government, confirmed in these terms the great and happy news: Dear fellow citizens, after 72 days of a Siege without example in the whole history, devoted to prepare, to organize the forces of the deliverance, PARIS has just thrown out of its walls, to break the iron circle which embraces it, a numerous and valiant army... Our two great armies march to the meeting of the other. Who would doubt the final outcome of this gigantic struggle? The Prussians can measure today the difference that exists between a despot who fights to satisfy his whims and an armed people who do not want to perish... France and the Universe will never forget that it is PARIS who first gave this example, taught this policy and thus founded its moral supremacy, by remaining faithful to the heroic spirit of the Revolution Long live Paris!!! Long live France!!! Long live the Republic, one and indivisible!!!" Leon GAMBETTA - for copy TRYSTRAM The Sub-Prefect of DUNKERQUE - Printed in Dunkirk, Typo Ve B. Kien, 26 rue Nationale - Poster (70 x 53) State D (some lacks)
