Marshal Duc de BELLE-ISLE. Louis Charles Auguste Fouquet, Du - Lot 107
Marshal Duc de BELLE-ISLE. Louis Charles Auguste Fouquet, Duc de BELLE-ISLE, Marshal of France in 1741 - Letter A.S. "Le Mal Duc de BELLEISLE" to VERSAILLES, May 25, 1756 - Beautiful letter written under the Secret: "M. LAVALETTE is dying here, sir, as soon as I heard I wrote immediately to M. de MORAS to whom I reminded everything I had told him, not long ago. I enclose here his original reply, which I beg you to throw into the fire, as you must be unaware of what I am telling you. Mr de MORAS has gone to Paris and will not return until Friday. He will not work with the King until Sunday. I shall see him at my leisure before then, as I shall not be leaving Versailles; but I trust that your case will be decided on Sunday, and I pay you my compliments in advance. You see that with patience one can also achieve...". He adds in poscriptum: "I recommend the utmost secrecy except for M. le Cardinal to whom you can show my letter before burning it."
