ENLUMINATION / Original illumination on paper signed Geneviève SOUCHAL (1926-1988, historian, former curator at the Musée de Cluny), executed in gouache and watercolor, 1960s, depicting Thibaud IV of Champagne (1201-1253, archetypal medieval lord, both valiant knight and gentleman-poet) - He is on horseback in front of his town of Provins, in the company of Queen Blanche de Castille, his muse, with whom he had a platonic love affair that inspired poems and songs - This miniature illustrates a troubadour song by Thibaud de Champagne, calligraphed with gouache and watercolor decorative elements (23.5 x 29.5 cm with bamboo wood frame 39.5 x 45.5 cm).
