Fencing/ Books/ Magazines/ Olympic Games/ Foil/ Epee/ Mich/ - Lot 126
Fencing/ Books/ Magazines/ Olympic Games/ Foil/ Epee/ Mich/ Antheor/ Nice/ Illoud. Five magnificent items (3 magazines, 2 books): a) Illustrated book by Mich: "15 ans d'escrime" by Herman Georges Berger (1865-1924, a former member of the Alsacienne), in which we find all the spirit and strength of fencing in the belle époque, when from artistic and classical foil, fencing opened up to epee, thanks to the author, Olympic epee team champion in London in 1908. A unique account of the halls, cafés, duels, the greatest are there, 28.5x20, 98 pages, 1923, small lack in a corner of the cover; b) Book: "Haut les masques" by Georges Villa (1883-1965), preface and text by Armand Massard (1884-1971), and Roger Ducret (1888-1962) (Ed/Léon Delevoye, Rouen). Another 80-page gem (in4°, 32x25, 1932). For this pantheon to the glory of fencing, Montmédy's master caricaturist, the terrible Georges, took as his bodyguards and pen handlers Armand and Roger, respectively triple and octuple Olympic medallists!!!! The spirit sparkles, the corks fly from the opening with Lucien Gaudin as a "campionissime", please, to pages 78 and 79, where we find our two thieves at full length, after having seen the most shimmering blades. Copy 801/1000; c) three issues of "L'Escrime et le tir", nos. 33 and 34 (Oct-Nov 1923) with covers by Georges Villa, and no. 94 of June-July 29, without cover. Up for grabs.
