Large sarcophagus bas-relief depicting a figure with a peacock (symbol of eternity) in the center, and two lovers holding torches at either end. A fluted decoration alternates the scenes depicted. The face was only sketched, to be worked on after the owner's death. Marble The fragments have been brought together for the photo. Roman period 3rd century A model with strigils and central scene, featuring lovers leaning on torches, is in the Louvre MA 2954. This lot will be stored free of charge at Paname Service in Stains after the sale for 15 days, at the buyer's expense. Collection by prior appointment
