HAUTE-LOIRE. Christophe Bernard de BRAGELONGNE (Paris 1688 - - Lot 129
HAUTE-LOIRE. Christophe Bernard de BRAGELONGNE (Paris 1688 - Paris 1744) Mathematician, Catholic priest, Académie des Sciences, Dean and Count of the Church of St Julien de BRIOUDE. Autograph letter signed, 4 pages in-8° (circa 1730). He is late in replying to her letter: "...these pains and embarrassments have been caused me by the illnesses which have befallen both Madame d'URFÉ my niece, and her only son, and Mr. le marquis de LANGEAC his brother-in-law. This lasted the whole month of October, during the absence of Mr d'URFÉ, who was in camp, so that I found myself solely responsible for the care of a house that had become a hospital, so to speak, and then responsible for hiding the death of an only son from a mother who was herself ill... finally calm is beginning to return... I am very grateful for the care you have taken for everything that concerns me in this country. I beg you to give prompt orders to secure the bridge in the park and to beg your brother to preside over the work that will be necessary for this... and for the major repairs to my stables, which must begin as soon as spring comes...".
