An absolute supporter of the Ancien Régime, he emigrated - Autograph letter signed by the Deputy Baron de FLACHSLANDEN, STRASBOURG (Bas-Rhin) January 10, 1788 - 2 pages in-8° - "Monsieur le Comte. You will see from my report that I was unable to dispense with concluding that the sums misused should be returned. But there are two reflections that I did not want to make... One was that I was forced to stop with the calculations because I felt there was too much groping going on. The other was that, since the Ordinary Chiefs had been questioned by the Officers, in order to ascertain the fact put forward, there necessarily followed a publicity in the Corps which must remove from the Chief all personal consideration...".
