Olympic Games/ Winter, 1992/ Albertville/ - Lot 210
Olympic Games/ Winter, 1992/ Albertville/
Official torch.
Torch for the XVI Olympic Winter Games. In the garland of torches that have taken turns at the Games since 1936, this is the most original, but also the most functional. Nicknamed "la corne" (the horn), it actually sprang from the pencils of the great designer Philippe Starck, like a fury... Was he working in Nîmes or Arles that day? Was he drinking an aperitif with the chef at Gare? Even Jean-Claude Killy, the great, great boss of these unforgettable Games, doesn't know. What remains is a jewel in snow-grey stainless steel, to be caressed by the 5500 relay runners who will take it via Corsica, please, from Olympia to Albertville. The Magic Concorde will add even more height to this magical garland. At 42 cm long, with an 8 cm upper focal point, it's designed to fit comfortably in the hand, without having to look for the right side... The official print run was 100 plus 30, but between the inevitable trial runs and numbering oversights, it's safe to assume that around 150 copies were produced.
