BEN VAUTIER (1935-2024) Garderem lo moral, circa 1993. Acrylic on paper. Signed and numbered in pencil 15/30. Small edition of "multiples-originaux": each copy is handwritten by the artist. 25 x 32 cm. Framed under glass. The text in Occitan means "We'll keep our spirits up". This phrase became a political slogan for Occitan regionalists in the 1970s. Ben Vautier supported these movements with an artistic approach he himself described as ethnist: a people must have its own language, fight to keep it, and create works in that same language to keep it alive.
