Comte Antoine DROUOT, Général d'Empire, Pair de France (Nanc - Lot 476
Comte Antoine DROUOT, Général d'Empire, Pair de France (Nancy/ Meurthe-et-Moselle 1774 - Nancy 1847). A fine private letter in which DROUOT gives news of the Generals he knew, and asks his friend, Chef de Bataillon Louis Évain, Baron de l'Empire, for information. Proscribed by Louis XVIII, he was then inactive out of loyalty to Emperor Napoleon 1st: Autograph letter signed by MAUBEUGE January 25 (circa 1816): "I don't know how to reply, my dear Évain, to all the obliging things contained in your previous letters... Always keep the same feelings for me, I will always have some right to them through my inviolable and eternal friendship. I read with the greatest joy the article in General PERNETY's letter, you would not believe how proud I am of the esteem and attachment of such a commendable leader; show him all my gratitude and give me his address when he returns to France. I received a letter from General GASSENDI which gave me inestimable pleasure. There is nothing I can do to continue to merit the esteem of such a distinguished General... Thank you for thinking of my Director's salary, if I never receive it, as well as my postage, it will be up to you to pay it. Are circumstances going to bring about any changes in the Corps? Are the garrisons being kept in the same state? You let me foresee that it might be possible for some Regiments to make small movements during the Peace. Believe, my friend, in the power of my eternal friendship. Remind me of Mr PEYRARD and RICHARD. I wrote yesterday to General G. Have you any news from General Éblé. 1 page in-4°.
