Joseph FLEURIAU D'ARMENONVILLE (1661 - Château de Madrid 1728) Financier, Magistrate, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Marine under the Regency and Keeper of the Seals under Louis XV. Letter signed "D'ARMENOUVILLE" from Versailles, July 6, 1722, to the Bishop of GAP. 2 folio pages, reduced margins: "Monsieur. His Royal Highness the Duc d'Orléans having been informed that for some time now there has been a great slackening in the signing of the form prescribed for the Declarations of the late Roy of the months of April 1664 and 1665, has ordered me to inform you of his intention that, without excluding anyone, you give me your visa. You will not allow any benefice to be taken in your Diocese, and you will not confer any on anyone unless the form has first been signed purely and simply, without any restrictions. I direct the same to all the Archbishops and Bishops of my Department by order of His Royal Highness".
