Adolphe BLANQUI (Nice 1798 - 1854) Economist, Deputy for GIR - Lot 490
Adolphe BLANQUI (Nice 1798 - 1854) Economist, Deputy for GIRONDE in 1846 - Interesting A.S. letter, from Paris, November 1, 1834, to Mr. POWLETT THOMSON, Secretary of State for Trade in LONDON. (Address), on trade relations between Great Britain and France, Duchâtel's inquiry, prohibitions...: "...you are no more amazed than we are at the deplorable state of ignorance and greed into which our Manufacturers have proved they are plunged, by their unanimity in demanding the maintenance of prohibitions. We are placed between these backward and spineless men, and the exaggerated demands of the traders from LE HAVRE and BORDEAUX, All or nothing, that is the motto of both parties... the prohibitive flood is lifted to its foundations and our monopolists have not even feared to threaten the government with the wrath of the workers, as if the progressive freedom of trade were not in the interest of the workers...". - 3 pages in-4° (opening tear with two small words missing) -
