FAMINE IN IRELAND 1845-1851. Letter signed by Monseigneur AFFRE, Denys Auguste (1818-1848), Archbishop of PARIS from 1840 to 1848, requesting Charity for the Irish. In Ireland, a great famine which, between 1845 and 1851, caused the death of a million Irish and led to the emigration of two million. 1 page in-4°: "The Supreme Pontiff, Head and Father of the great Christian Family, exhorts us in the most urgent manner to help our Irish brothers with our prayers and alms. It is in his revered name that I have the honor of soliciting your charity today. After having relieved the sufferings of our compatriots, who have the first right to our assistance; Let us not forget the first rights to our assistance, let us not forget the still greater evils of a people so worthy of commiseration. Offerings may be given to one of my Grand Vicars, to Mr. le Supérieur des Irlandais, or to Mr. de Barante Trésorier du Comité de Secours pour l'Irlande, rue garancière, N°8..."
