Portrait vase of a notable wearing a cotton padded cap. - Lot 429
Portrait vase of a notable wearing a cotton padded cap. Ceramic with reddish-brown, dark beige and light beige slip. Height: 18 cm Length: 16.5 cm Mochica culture, ca. 100-700 A.D. Peru A few chips and surface wear, otherwise good condition. This representation of the portrait in the form is classic, even if we know the more frequent version of the vase with a stirrup handle. The face here is very realistic and beautifully crafted. For a similar example, Princeton University Art Museum number 2016-1073. Provenance: collection of Monsieur P.
